"The kingdom is invaded by dark forces! Can the gallant White Knight save it from ruin?"
-The DLC's tagline
White Knight: Happily Ever After? is a paid DLC game mode for Monster High: Nicktoons' Monster Madness. As the title suggests, the White Knight is the main playable character.
Premise[]
As the Monster High students and the Nicktoons are busy fighting Kathryn's forces in a desperate bid to stop her from summoning Cthulhu, it turns out that the eldritch forces released upon the multiverse hasn't just effected the Monster High and Nickelodeon universes-the Ever After High universe was damaged greatly, releasing the Evil Queen from her mirror prison and causing monsters and vile mercenaries to rampage throughout the land. In response, the White Knight mounts his horse once more, fighting to stop a war that could tear apart the fairy tale universe if left unchecked.
Gameplay[]
Similarly to the main game, White Knight: Happily Ever After? is 3D platformer/action game where the player battles bosses to progress through the story. Unlike the main game, there is only one playable option: the White Knight. Although you can add other playable characters from the base game as part of the Knight's team (who will be controlled by either a CPU or a second human player if playing online), the Knight is the main playable character, lorewise and gameplaywise.
Basics[]
The White Knight has two gameplay styles called Modes: Dismount Mode & Mounted Mode. These Modes will change up the White Knight's gameplay style.
Dismount Mode is the Knight's basic form. During Dismount Mode, the Knight gains a shield that can be used to block projectiles and charge into enemies. He also has a sword, a melee weapon with basic range and average damage. The Knight can use a Dashing Dash while Dismounted, bashing his shield into enemies in a small area in front of him, before following up with a sword swing. He can use the Dash to chip away at enemies, along with making longer jumps and running up walls. Holding down while Dashing allows him to roll under tight gaps.
Mounted Mode can be considered a 'super form' for the Knight. During Mounted Mode, the Knight mounts onto his trusty steed, increasing his movement speed, but loses his shield, reducing his defense. He also gains a jousting lance in replacement for his sword, granting him more range. His Dashing Dash has increased speed and damage over time, but he cannot use this to crouch, and his traction greatly reduces while dashing. The Knight can dismount the horse by jumping off of it, sending the horse off galloping ahead in a line to damage enemies in its path.
Goddard is replaced by the unnamed Narrator, who overall fulfils the same role as Jimmy's pet (upgrades the Knight's skill tree, provides tips about the level, contains the enemy database, etc).
If other characters are in the Knight's team, he can use Spook Synergy Attacks with them.
Storyline[]
The entire storyline is narrated, with dialogue used sparingly throughout the game's cutscenes. Each part of the story is referred to as a "Chapter".
Prologue: Once upon a Time....[]
Once upon a different time, in a different world....
There was a legendary hero called the White Knight.
A defender of the weak and helper of the righteous, the Knight's exploits were known all throughout the land.
On this day, we find him taking a break from heroics, training his swordsmanship back home...
Chapter 1: Darkness Befalls this Land[]
But what's this?
A shadowy figure is unleashing chaos on the peaceful world!
No doubt about it! This must be the work of that wicked Evil Queen!
The Evil Queen? Well, there's no time to waste! Onwards, noble Knight!
Chapter 2: Into the Woods[]
As the Knight ventured through the Tulgey Wood, he suddenly spotted something that made his very blood run cold.
There, in the middle of a forest glade, was a dreaded Jabberwock.
"A...A Jabberwock?!" Thought the Knight to himself. "They were supposed to be extinct years ago!"
But it seems that the Jabberwock has already spotted our hapless hero.
"Very well then, I shall slay this foul beast once more!" was the battle cry that the Knight uttered to himself as he charged towards the monster.
Chapter 3: A Sewer without Pipes...Or a Cat without a Grin?[]
The Knight triumphed over the vicious Jabberwock, but there was no time to tend to his wounds.
However, the creature's defeat did open up a gateway to the Royal Sewers, revealing a way forwards in the oddball corner of the woods he was in.
And as the Knight pressed onward to the Sewer to investigate the mysterious goings-on there, he was totally unaware of him being watched....
Watched by something that wasn't there herself...
Chapter 4: Fairly Odd Madness[]
The Knight deftly cleared the Sewers from its feline menace.
Soon, he cleared his way out of the dank drains (even if his armor smelled a bit) and onto the Accused Peaks.
The Peaks are home to some of the foulest creatures to ever blight this land: the Anti-Fairies.
The battles will grow increasingly heated here. Onwards!
Chapter 5: The Royal Mercenaries Attack![]
As the Knight takes a break on his quest, a pair of suspicious figures emerge!
"Nyeheehee! You're cornered, White Knight!"
What in the world? A Madcap Jester and a insidious Red Knight have ambushed our hero!
You must defeat this dreadful duo! Go, White Knight!
Chapter 6: 40° Below?![]
The Knight's journey takes him to the Snow Kingdom.
These snowy mountains are hard to traverse indeed! Brrr...It's freezing too!
But lest we forget that the ice and snow are the Frost Elves's domain....
And it seems they've been anticipating the Knight's intrusion....
Chapter 7: The Mercenaries' Big Comeback![]
"At last, it was time to battle the Evil Queen!" Or so the Knight thought.
To his surprise, the Mercenaries want to relive their grudge match!
"Let's settle this once and for all!! Nyeheeheehee!"
Can the knight best the duo's onslaught again?
Chapter 9: Mirror, Mirror...[]
Somebody once told the White Knight that the world was gonna roll him.
And he definitely felt rocked and rolled now.
The Evil Queen had absorbed the eldritch energy source to evolve into something worse.
She was now the Dark Queen-faster, stronger and worse than her first encounter.
It was time to bring matters to an end in a final battle, and the Knight was ready to save the world.
This will truly be the final showdown!
Final Chapter: Happily Ever After[]
The White Knight fought as no one ever had to restore peace to the kingdom.
At last, the unprecedented battle against the ultimate force of evil...was over.
The kingdom was finally at peace.
But the Knight remains on guard...
After all, who knows when another evil might arise?
But at the moment, you could say that the Knight lived...
Happily Ever After.
THE END!
